Fall Weaning
Any cows found the first and second days are held at Lay Spring while we search for the rest of the herd. By about the third day, we have a good herd to push to the winter base camp. Once the cows are caught in the corrals at the base camp, we sort the calves from the cows and wean them. The cows are let back out to the winter pasture and the calves are hauled to town.
This adventure may seem a little more low-key than the Fall and Spring Cattle Drives. While you may cover less distance, you still see some great country and help complete an important part of ranching.
